Tractor beams are very useful and can help capture ships and tow people. You need the Tractoring skill in order to use tractor beams of a given level. These can be boosted by Tractor Subskills.

Tractors have a wide variety of uses, including pushing/pulling targets, pushing/pulling yourself, buffing/debuffing someone, and extracting resources or DNA.

  • Strength is how strong the tractor is. This scales with distance (or distance - resting length for tractors with resting length)
  • Density (Enhancement) modifies how heavy you seem to your equipped tractor. A positive density enhancement means your target will tend to move and a negative density enhancement means you will tend to move
  • Elec is the base amount of energy used per unit time while the tractor is active. The actual energy usage scales with distance
  • Resting length is the distance from your ship where the strength of the tractor will invert. Only seen on anchor tractors
  • Ship Effect is the effect a tractor will apply on a target ship
  • Drone Effect is the effect a tractor will apply on a target temporary or permanent drone
  • Base Effect is the effect a tractor will apply on a player base

Density Enhancement scales the force your tractor is applying to you by a factor of 1 / (1+density_enhancement). Notably, density enhancement does NOT affect the following things

  • The force your tractor applies on other things
  • The force of someone else's tractor on you or themselves
  • Knockback from your weapons or someone else's weapons
  • Your engines or actual ship weight

Puller Tractors

Puller tractors generally have positive density enhancement, which means that your target will tend to move toward you rather than the other way around.

DNA Extraction Tractors

These can be used to extract DNA from certain Aveksaka ships. These AI can be found in the Pajca and Sas arms of Subspace. For the purpose of DNA extraction, these can also be spawned by mining the asteroids in each of the 5 boss lobbies at the end of each arm. Note that the AI spawned this way will not work for kill missions
