Grim Reaver
Champion of the dreaded Reavers, Grim Reaver roams Perilous Space, prepared to attack anything that comes within his sight. His only weapons are Ethereal U beams and the dreaded Reaver Lasers that can hit their target at deadly range (around 1700 distance) and accuracy (about 110-170 degree tracking). While his relatively small shield bank allows stronger players to simply tank him to death, this fearsome pirate easily kills moderately equipped captains in several shots, making him one of the most dangerous inhabitants of Perilous Space. There are now not one, but TWO roaming Grim Reavers at any time, with two different spawn points.
Tips
Grim Reaver has a weakness to weapons of Energy, Laser, and especially Mining type. Therefore, one option is to move at a slightly slower velocity and launch tracking weapons such as Venusian MagCannons or Excommunicators. Using laser weapons, however, is usually not a good idea; his Reaver Lasers deal massive damage per second and will almost always take you out before his death, and his Holy Ward tractor beam prevents opponents from using pulse weapons effectively.
Speed Demons with a Reaver can also use Grim Reaver's own combat style against him! Simply fly out of his range a moderate distance (2500 from him should be fine), turn to face him, and thrust to your maximum speed forward. Before entering Grim Reaver's range, the player can turn around to face away from it and, upon entering his range and over his ship, fire his or her own Reaver Laser to lock up the Grim Reaver and leave him completely immobile and defenseless! The player can then fire their Reaver Laser upon him while staying behind him until the menace meets its demise.
(EDIT: This method is no longer effective due to the reduced negative turning time that the Reaver Laser forces, AI ships will still be able to turn...it is also not recommended that any SD enter a Reaver.)
And, remember, if you plan to fly through Grim Reaver-infested area, always carry at least 3 Volatile Laser Diffusers ready to be equipped by hot-key in an instant.
