Solar Panels collect energy from nearby suns. If you're within a certain distance of a sun (this number is sun dependent), you'll get the full elec regen of the panel. Outside of that distance, the elec regen decreases linearly with distance (this number is also sun dependent).

The maximum number of solar panels equipped depends on the size of the ship or base. This limit is given by size/10, rounded down. For instance, a Phunka.dll is 29 size and can equip 2 solar panels.

  • Elec is the maximum amount of energy generated per second
  • Elec/Size is the maximum amount of energy generated per second per size (useful for maximizing elec regen when limited space is available)

For ships, all solar panels will only work once you've been out of combat for 10 seconds. They also work on all types of suns.

Base solar panels work while in combat, but must be matched to the type of the sun (dark suns vs. non dark suns)
