The universe reset refers to the process of creating a new universe after the current one comes to an end. The map of all randomly generated systems is recreated from scratch for players to explore once more. This happens once every three to four months.

What is kept, and what is lost

When the universe resets all non-permanent star systems are regenerated. This means all player bases, deployed permanent drones, and map data are lost. However, credits, skills, docked ships, bots, and all stored items are kept.

What happens

The server will shut down once the timer expires, which can be found in the announcement page for the relevant universe reset. Traditionally this happens at 13:00 server time (EST/EDT) on Saturdays. The downtime varies but is never shorter than one hour. After the maintenance concludes, players will start off undocked in whatever ship they were in before the reset in a random protected system of Earthforce Space. Active bots will enter the new universe beside their owner and set to follow them. Returning characters will start with a small amount of map data of warp zero systems around Sol.

Docking at an AI station will trigger a prompt asking the player if they wish to dock all of their other ships at that station. If they decline, the ships will remain in limbo until the player docks again and accepts a prompt. Each character is given one free use of the command “/limbo” which will return all docked ships into this state. If this command is not used within 24 hours of the reset it will expire, though players commonly submit support tickets in order to limbo their ships past this time.

Wildspace is generated from a pre-chosen grayscale image for which contrast is translated to galaxy density. Fresh AI empires are placed in high danger factor peaks where their special HQ galaxies are located.

AI Outposts will reside in perilous space, wildspace, and even the far reaches of Earthforce space. As these do not respawn many players rush to destroy them for their unique drops.

All roaming bosses seem to start spawned at the beginning of a new universe, and all lockouts are reset.
