There are a wide variety of races found in Star Sonata, varying from various Terran groups such as the law-enforcing Earthforce, to the Merchants Guild as well as an assortment of pirates such as the Blue Pirates and Infernal Faction. There are also alien races found around the universe, such as the Kalthi League, the murderous UrQa or the peaceful Paxians.

It is also possible to find the ruins of ancient alien civilizations, the Bule, Faranji, Mzungu and Vazaha as well as ruins of the UrQa and Paxians, but the last two races are still around.
