Free Money

Why Free Cash isn't such a good idea anymore.

The Beginnings of a Disaster

Sometimes, players who have quite a bit of extra cash will give away their money to the newer players. Of course, this is a great common courtesy, however, in the past months it has become less and less of a desirable act. Why, you ask? Another online game, known as RuneScape, is in the process of collapsing in on itself. RuneScape has become heavily populated with what some people call noobs; immature players who only cause grief. How does this affect Star Sonata? Well, since most of the best players in RuneScape have deserted the game because of the grief caused by these immature players, the chain of commerce has broken down. The noobs in the game no longer have a supply line of items from the higher levels for them to play with. Being much more inexperienced, and unable to find their own items and money, these immature players flood out of RuneScape in search of a new game to mess with.

Money + Noobs = Problems

So, you offer one newbie free money, and of course they accept. You've done your good deed for the day. Or have you? When one newbie gets free money, the less mature noobs jump in on the offer of free cash and want their share too. They don't care that you want to give the money to a certain person, and it's not them. Their general philosophy is that they deserve the same free money as everyone else, and it's your sole duty to give it to them.

The Result

What eventually happens when these less mature players invade the game, is that some will become P2Pers, and appear to be normal players. At the same time, however, they will be be less trustworthy than a mature individual, and much more likely to violate rules and boundaries. The end result of this is a total breakdown in trust between veterans and new players. The moral of the story here? Free money needs to become a thing of the past, and less noobs will be attracted to the game. In the end, this will benefit everyone who enjoys Star Sonata. It will decrease the chance that admins will be pressured into making bad decisions with game design, because of noobs who are unable to figure things out. It will decrease the amount of players annoying others for money and items, and just causing general greif.

Just remember, when you give in to a beggar noob, you're only paying for their habit!

Important Notes

- Noob refers to an immature player, while Newbie refers to a new player who is mature and has no desire to cause problems.

- Being a previous High-Ranking player of RuneScape, I have seen how badly noobs can damage a game, and I do not wish the same for Star Sonata.
