'AI' generally stands for 'Artificial Intelligence. Thus, an AI ship is a spacecraft not commanded by a player pilot.
Some people deduce this term to mean 'Alien Intelligence'. It may be either of the two, although an AI ship is really a computer player.
Most, if not all, AI ships, drones, and other such units can be attacked by a player of any level. However, practice caution before making any hostile actions, and be sure that you can actually kill the target AI.
