Tractor beams are very useful and can help capture ships and tow people. You can train tractoring to level one in warp one and above, and to level 5 in Deflector. Tractoring is available to level 12 in Empathy Field which can only be entered with your engine unequipped. You can have a friend tractor you to the wormhole or you can build a secret cache on the wormhole or you can send a slave into empathy field (slaves can go in and out with an engine) and hitch a lift on the slave with a tractor beam.
