Star Sonata is based on several servers, each with a different purpose. It is commonly said that the servers are run by Hampsters, see Server Hampster for more about the power source for the servers.

The main server is Liberty, where the "official" game takes place. This is updated with periodic patches and every 4 months or so with a Universe Reset.

Test server is what the name implies, it is the testing ground for newly developed content that seems likely of being inserted into the game. The test server is "Mirrored" occasionally to reflect the skills, credits, items, and ships a charachter from Liberty has. However, there are no set dates for "Mirroring" and a player may find himself with a greatly changed charachter from his current Liberty. Actions taken in Test do not affect Liberty.

Test2 server is where the more extreme changes to the game are tested and refined from before being inserted into test and ultimately liberty. These include radical map configurations and seemingly random gates to various warps in protected systems. Due to the nature of some of these additions, it is much less stable then Test. Much like Test this server is occasionally mirrored and actions taken do not affect Liberty.
