Drops are items or money that AI's may leave behind when they are destroyed. Some AI's have self destruct mechanisms that prevent anything (other than money) from being left behind when they're destroyed.

You need a scoop of some sort in order to pick up any dropped items.

DG drops are very poor.  They aren't that great and getting to the boss and killing it is even harder.  Many say its not worth it but I hear that Jeff_L (Star Sonata administrator) is going to change the drop rates and tables for DG's***, so keep that in mind for later.

High end bosses (Marco Columbus, Sputty Nutty, Copper Queen, etc) have the chance of dropping a VERY good item (from a DF 400 DG I've heard) and other random stuff, like demented aug blueprints, God augs, Demented Give and Takes, etc etc.

The Uber Zone (UZ) always drops good stuff from the Ai in there, and the bosses in the other UZ areas.  Its all UZ based content drops, so don't expect a DF 400 drop but rather a Zebra charger

(a cowboy charger+ in short).

Now there are more than just regular items.  We have all sorts of * items, Demented items, Oversized, Gigantic, and Fine Tuned drops/items.  Recently, the Star Sonata administrators have added AI to drop * gear (e.g. Ion Peashooter*).  These items have a little bonus (such as 2% speed, or 5% damage added on after other calculations i.e. skills and augs).  Demented items are 5% better in every way (with a 1.05 speed mod to boot).  Fine tuned gear gives 5% (I think) and a little bonus relating to the item (A fine tuned fission thrust is 5% better and gives 51% docking speed).  Fine tuned items can only be made from blueprints (DG drops).  Ai also have common drops.  For example: blue gammas drop blue dust (a commod) while monochrome hues drop kromelite.  The AI don't always drop these common commods but expect it from them (these items cannot be made, they must be farmed off of the AI).
