Commodities that disappear after a period of time, and must be used for missions & builds before they expire (or stored in a freezer ship).

Decayable via Half-Life

The time it takes for a commodity to decay is determined by its Half Life period.

This indicates the decay rate roughly equivalent to the time it takes for half of a quantity to disappear. However, because this quantity changes with each unit decayed, this rate constantly changes depending on the quantity in the commodity's stack.

For example, if Promethium has a Half-Life of 25 minutes, a stack of 100 Promethium will begin to decay at a rate of 50 Promethium over 25 minutes, or 2 Promethium/minute. Once a single unit decays and the total is 99, it slows down to 49.5/25 (1.98 prom/minute), and so on. A single decayable commodity lasts double of its half-life before it decays.

Larger quantities of decayable commods will have shorter periods between decay ticks (or even decay several units per tick), so think fast when hauling decayables in bulk!

Decays at universe reset

Certain commodities instead decay on a per-universe basis, and disappear after a universe reset. This includes Industrial Commodities and powerful AI drops like Celestial Shards and Aurora Cores.
