Diffusers are items that add Resistance to a structure, whether it be a ship or a station. These devices require the Equipment skill to use, and vary mainly in what they protect against, by how much they protect, their size, and how much damage they are able to take. For ships, only one diffuser can be equipped at a time and you must be docked in order to equip/unequip them. The durability column in this page shows how much damage taken is required to reduce the durability of a diffuser by 1% (towing does not reduce diffuser durability anymore). See the Healing Revamp 1.0 patch notes for more details of this change.

For stations, you can equip an effectively unlimited number of diffusers (actual limit: 30). However, only the highest resistance for each damage type will apply. Bases also use the old failure system where diffusers have a chance of failing and getting destroyed. For a list of Base Dampeners go here.

Transference Diffusers

Transference resist decreases incoming stealing damage. Transference vulnerability increases incoming healing. Neither of these stats affect the amount of healing or stealing your own ship can do. There seems to be a special case with the specialized transference inhibitors (that have both transference resist and vulnerability) where the reduced stealing and extra healing effects are squared.

Specialized inhibitors and facilitators require Shield Monkey and Berserker class to use, respectively.
