Speed Demon Class

A Ruined Haraka SD, fighting a Lunarian in Kalthi Depths with the help of some combat bots -- two Vultures and a Faranji Stinger. A stream of Burning Blossom projectiles, a Titan Mining Laser, and two multifired Kalthi Fires chip at the Moonfighter's hull.

Like the name suggests, Speed Demons (or SDs) live life in the fast lane -- they fly fast and shoot fast. SDs embody the arcade style of combat where shooting and movement take centre stage.

SDs have very high burst damage potential, with their powerful Overdrive and Target Tracker Super Items that further increase damage output and energy sustain. This stacks with temporary bonuses like +% Damage, which allows SDs to dish out damage several times higher than their regular output. With a combination of high mobility, high burst, and heightened radar bonuses, SDs alongside Seers are well suited for assassination-style plays.

The four aug slots of a light fighter allows for a variety of build styles for SDs. An SD can choose to be a glass cannon, a long range duelist, a low-vis assassin, or a tiny flying tank -- often crossing over into multiple styles in varying degrees depending on the player's goals.

However, there are some limitations that the class operates within, the naturally low hull space and resistances of light fighters (alongside the the physical vulnerability of the hull class). SDs have to balance their gear to make room for loot or weapons, and maneuver between the attack patterns of enemies to get within firing range.

Beyond combat, SD enjoys its speed everywhere else. Players often designate an SD character to be their main storage/hauling character, as the class's speed bonuses will translate over into ships like industrial freighters. An SD flying a Divine Behemoth or Honey Badger can reach 700 speed with relative ease, allowing augmenter setups to focus more on capacity or agility over raw speed.

Special Abilities

There are three notable special ability items that can be purchased in Lyceum at the Speed Demon and Recon class locked stations.

The Speed Demon Overdrive Device will store energy as the player hits enemies in charge mode. When the overdrive device has achieved full charge, it will use that energy charge to pay for part of the player's energy costs while giving them a damage boost while discharging.

The Speed Demon Tracking Device offers the player some evasion, projectile speed and the unique ability for weapons to fire out of the sides and rear of the player ship directly at a targeted enemy for ten seconds on a twenty second cooldown. This ability is incredibly powerful, allowing a speed demon the ability to dodge and juke while still being able to bear accurate fire down upon an enemy.

The Recon class Loot Pockets is a super item that can be used to gain extra hull space for scooping loot while having the downside of disabling weapons. This allows the player to fit extra loot where it may not be previously possible. There are six total versions of the item available at the Recon base in Lyceum, ranging from tech 0 to tech 22. The lowest tech super item gives 100 extra space while the tech 22 version gives 600 extra space.
